Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the NIH, delivered the keynote speech at a Symposium commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the discovery of the huntingtin, in which he highlighted the significance of this achievement and how it led to the Human Genome Project and changed the direction of medical research.

Joining Dr. Collins were Dr. Nancy Wexler, Dr. James Gusella and Dr. Marcy MacDonald who spoke about the work of the original "gene hunters," the current state of HD research and its future direction.
