Memantine

This is a Phase III trial for Huntington's. Memantine is a glutamate stabilizer which is already FDA-approved for Alzheimer's.  Seventy-two people will participate in a 6-month trial. During the first 3 months, half will receive memantine (10 mg, twice daily), and the other half placebo. During the remaining 3 months, all will receive memantine.

Outcome measures compare short-term memory and cognition before and after treatment. This Phase III trial is still enrolling at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Kansas. Enrollment is complete at the University of California-San Diego. The sponsor is Forest Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
