CREST-E - creatine
Creatine is a dietary supplement. Preliminary evidence shows that it can extend survival in transgenic models of HD and that it can reduce brain markers of metabolic stress in humans with HD.
This phase III randomized, double blinded placebo controlled trial has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and is about to begin recruitment. It will enroll up to 650 participants from over forty Huntington Study Group centers for a three year period.

Planned outcome measures include comparison of total functional capacity (TFC), UHDRS, quality of life measures, changes in oxidative markers in blood, and morphmetric MRI at yearly intervals. Morphometric MRI measures whole brain volume.
