I have had the pleasure of being part of the NYA for 8 years now. I'm 28 years old, live in NC, and I'm married. I found out when I was 15 that my grandfather had Huntington's Disease. From that point on, I started researching everything I could about it. I was scared, but I knew that I needed to know if I was going to get it too. So at the age of 20, I went through the testing process; I tested positive for Huntington's Disease.

While struggling with my result, I found out about the HDSA Convention and the NYA. My first convention was Oklahoma City, and it changed my life. The NYA helped me cope with my result, helped me realize I'm not alone, and made me feel like I am part of a huge family. Throughout the years, I have met the most amazing people and have learned to live positively with Huntington's. Without the NYA and my extended HD family, I don't know what I would do.
