Mackenzie Ray, an 8th grader from Paragon Indiana wrote this poem to express her feelings about what HD has done to her family.
I am the daughter who wants a cure
I wonder why it happened to him
I hear him crying
I see him worsening
I am the daughter who wants a cure
I pretend he's getting better when in reality he isn't
I feel him touch my hand
I touch the soft bed beneath me
I worry someday he'll be gone
I cry when I think about him worsening
I am the daughter who wants a cure
I understand he may never improve
I say I won't cry when he asks but in reality I really will
I dream one day he'll be better
I try to comprehend this incurable disease
I hope we find a cure to Hunington's
I AM THE DAUGHTER WHO WANTS A CURE!
