Leon Tibben

Currently living in Minnesota, Leon Tibben is an Iowa native born and raised on a farm near Adiar, IA. He attended Iowa State University and later graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Mathematics. After graduation he began a career in information technology at American Mutual Life Insurance Company in Des Moines, IA. His career continued in various management roles including Midland Life National Insurance, Milbank Mutual Insurance Co., Gateway Computers and Medtronic.  He retired from full-time work at Medtronic in 2004, but is now the part-time bookkeeper at Highlight Printing in Minneapolis.

 

Leon has lost his father, brother and a sister and two nieces to Huntington's disease. He tested negative for the gene when his younger daughter was considering a second child. During the evaluation process of testing, he was asked if he had considered becoming active in the Minnesota HDSA Chapter and he has been active with the chapter and HDSA ever since.  During his tenure leading the Chapter, the combined efforts of the Minnesota Chapter Board and many volunteers produced three national awards, Chapter of the Year (2006), Board Development (2005) and top HDSA Shoot for a Cure Hoop-a-thon (2005). Mr. Tibben was the recipient of the Marjorie Guthrie Award for Outstanding service to the HD Community in 2010.
